My story
Hey there. My name is Mark Georgeson and welcome to my site which now hosts my coaching business as well as my back story. The very short version of the story is that following a bike accident in 2018 resulting in a broken back, neck, pelvic bleed and brain injury and subsequent medical retirement from my job, I have been on a bit of a journey of recovery. The next chapter is now emerging as I set up a coaching business in endurance sports and I would love to tell you my story and how I got here. And the important part sport has had to play.
The purpose of the blog is to tell you a wee bit about myself before the accident, a bit about the accident (although not too much!), take you through my rehabilitation so far and what Iβve learnt, and document progress as the journey continues. Oh and tell you about some new plans I have to get back to fitness (see the name of the website!) The problem/benefit of having crazy friendsβ¦.Iβll let you decide;) And if you keep reading you will see that I have completed said crazy challenge. And now as noted above to let you know about my setting up of a coaching business as the recovery develops.
Essentially this has been a story of hope and if you find one thing in my story that helps you through your own difficult moment in life or inspires you to go on your own personal quest to build a better quality of life I would be delighted. Please get in touch (although I wouldnβt recommend trying too hard to get knocked off your bike by a van at 50mph!) There are easier ways to progress on your journey through life as you grow and learn to be the version of yourself.
I have found that the people around you are amazing and the people you meet on the way generally have your best interests at heart. So stay positive:)
As you will have read in my blog over the last 8 years, Triathlon has had a big part to play in my recovery. I competed before my accident, and there is no doubt in my mind that because of that fitness that had seen me complete Iron Man Copenhagen in 2016, I was in a better place than most to recover from the multiple injuries, both physical and mental, that I suffered in 2018. It also provided me an amazing framework and motivation to recover. So much so that after being given a prognosis of maybe never walking again, I have since completed a few races as you will have read on this blog.
I have decided after 17 years of club coaching to take things to a new level and set up a one to one coaching business, Intensive Care 2 Celtman Coaching. From my coaching experience, race experience and life experience I think sports like triathlon can provide a fabulous physical and mental benefit to our quality of life. And with help and support from a coach, we can fit this into life through a balanced approach that can see us achieve our goals without it having a negative impact on the other important things in life such as family and work.
